23 BNP men get bail in torching of vehicles case
A Chittagong court yesterday granted bail to 23 BNP activists, including the city unit General Secretary Shahadat Hossain, till July 11 in connection with two cases filed against them for torching vehicles on May 13.
The Speedy Trial Tribunal of Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Mansur passed the order after the accused surrendered before the court and prayed for bail, said court sources.
The court also fixed July 11 for hearing on charge framing of both cases.
Aslam Chowdhury, general secretary of BNP city unit (north), SM Salauddin, leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Kotwali unit, were among others to receive bail.
On May 13, over 100 people were injured as law enforcers clashed with leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance. Three cars were torched and around 50 vehicles were vandalised during the clashes.
