Seven killed in road accidents

Seven people were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents in Jessore, Gazipur and Comilla yesterday. Our Benapole correspondent reports, five people were killed and eight others injured as a goods-laden truck hit a human hauler on Keshabpur-Chuknagar road in Altaful Taltola area in Keshabpur upazila of Jessore district yesterday morning. The deceased were identified as Hafizur Rahman, 32, Arif Hossain, 35, Jahangir Hossain, 30, Fazlu Akand, 60, and Nowsher Ali, 60. Mir Rejaul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Keshabpur Police Station, said a Satkhira-bound truck from Keshabpur hit a human hauler, Nosimon, around 7:50am, killing five Nosimon passengers instantly and injuring eight others. The injured were taken to Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex. UNB from Gazipur says, a man was killed on the spot as a Gazipur-bound bus hit him while he was crossing Dhaka-Tangail highway in Harinhati area of Kaliakoir upazila yesterday morning. The deceased is Hikmat Ali, 55, of Uttar Kanchonpur village in the upazila. In Comilla, a motorcyclist was killed when a covered van hit his motorbike on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Gabindapur in Chandina upazila yesterday morning. The victim was identified as Md Abdul Kader, 38, son of Mohammad Ali of Barodowar village in Adarsha Sadar upazila.
