The country's nurses are lagging behind in their quality of work due to lack of continuous training on modern nursing methods and technology during their service period, health experts at a programme said yesterday. A group of nurses of Ibrahim Cardiac and Research Institute, who completed a year-long training on modern nursing and spoken English skills, were awarded certificates at the programme at Birdem auditorium in the capital. The programme organisers - AK Khan Healthcare Trust and AHEd Global Healthcare Inc - conducted the training under their Nursing Bridge Programme, which aims to bring the nurses of South Asia at par with their western counterparts. Prof Dr AK Azad Khan, president of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh, emphasised on training nurses on latest clinical knowledge and technology, computer and communication skills, and critical thinking ability, in order to improve their skills. The experts also called for the government's initiatives in this regard. Dr Mizanur Rahman Shelly, chairman of Centre for Development Research, Bangladesh, attended the programme as chief guest.
