Sexual Assault on Student
SBMC still tense
Probe body starts functioning
Situation at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) remained tense yesterday following an attack on some students allegedly by ruling Awami League backed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists.
Five students, including two female ones, of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front of SBMC unit, were attacked on Monday as they protested against a sexual assault on a fellow student.
SBMC Principal Dr Shahidul Alam said a seven-member probe committee, led by Vice Principal Dr Syed Maksumul Huq, was formed on Sunday to investigate the matter and it was asked to submit report within seven working days.
The probe boy has already started its works on the incident, he added.
About the safety and security of the campus, he said law enforcing agencies increased their strength and patrolling on the campus.
Maksumul Huq said the committee held a meeting yesterday to collect statements of the sexually assaulted victim, accused students, teachers and the college staff.
On June 25, a group of BCL leaders of SBMC unit, comprising Abdul Kaiyum, Ziaul Huq Sumon and Anwar, allegedly abused a student of 43rd batch of the college on the campus.
They also recorded the incident on mobile phone to blackmail him.
