The cross examination of former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Farrukh Ahmad, a prosecution witness in the 10-truck arms haul cases, continued for the second day yesterday. It started at 12.20pm and with an hour interval for lunch it continued till 5.45pm when the judge of Chittagong Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1 SM Mojibur Rahman adjourned the proceedings for the day. The incomplete cross examination would resume today. Lawyers of five accused including former NSI Director General Brig Gen (retd) Abdur Rahim, former DGFI Director Brig Gen (retd) Rezzakul Haider, ex-NSI Director Major (retd) Liakat Hossain, ex-NSI field officer Akbar Hossain Khan and Hafizur Rahman cross examined Farrukh. During the cross examination, Liakat's lawyer Mohammad Ahasan asked Farrukh whether he was aware that Major Liakat was never in charge of NSI Chittagong Office. Farrukh replied that he could not recall the information. Replying to a question of Rezzakul's lawyer Advocate Kamrul Islam, Farrukh said he asked former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Chittagong Cantonment about the destination of 10-truck load of arms as he [Farrukh] knew that no case was filed in connection with seizure of one trawler load of arms at Cox's Bazar in 1996 due to intervention of the then GOC.
