9 more witnesses testify

Nine more prosecution witnesses yesterday gave deposition before the Metropolitan Sessions Judges' Court set up temporarily at the Alia Madrasa playground in the capital's Bakshibazar to hold the BDR carnage trial. Among the witnesses, Doctor Snigdha Sarkar, who conducted autopsy on 14 victims of the carnage including Col Mojibul Haque, was cross-examined by defence counsels for the second day. After her cross-examination, the court received deposition of eight witnesses including six who identified the 14 bodies. Following their deposition, defence counsel cross-examined them. So far 278 witnesses gave their deposition before the court. Prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kajol said former army chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed, prime minister's Military Secretary Maj Gen Miah Md Zainul Abedin, former inspector general of police Nur Muhammad, and Lt Col (retd) Dr Jahan Ara Begum will possibly appear before the court within a few working days to give their testimonies. A Dhaka court on Monday asked them to give their testimonies in connection with the carnage at BDR headquarters in 2009.
