Road crashes kill 12

Twelve people, including three of a family, were killed and thirty-six others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Jessore, Manikganj, Mymensingh and Narail on Sunday and yesterday. Staff correspondent reports, an unidentified woman, aged around 28 years, died after being run over by a bus on Progati Sarani Road in the capital's Badda yesterday. Our Sirajganj correspondent reports, four people were killed and another was injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a nosimon (three-wheeler) at Garadoho in Shahzadpur upazila yesterday. The dead are Shafiqul Islam, 35, the auto-rickshaw driver; Asgar Ali, 45, of Natore, his wife Monwara, 35, and his son Nayeem, 9. UNB from Rajshahi adds, two schoolgirls were killed and two others injured as a truck hit them near Mypara Bazar in Puthia upazila yesterday morning. The deceased are Juthi and Shapla, two students of class X and residents of Tonapara in the upazila. Our Chittagong correspondent says, college student, Mohammed Shahin, 19, was killed when a microbus hit a motorbike carrying him beside Raozan Thermal Power Station in Raozan upazila yesterday morning. In Jessore, motorcyclist Falguni Chowdhury, 28, of Panchakari village in Monirampur upazila, was injured when a truck hit her motorcycle on Jessore-Chowgachha road in Khoertola Bazar area in the sadar upazila on Saturday. She died at Jessore Medical College Hospital yesterday night. In Manikganj, Abdur Razzak Ranjit, 25, was killed and three others were injured when a truck rammed a rickshaw on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Paturia turning point in Shivalaya upazila on Sunday night. The injured were taken to the upazila health complex. In another incident, Atoar Rahman, 35, was killed as a bus ran over him while he was crossing Dhaka-Aricha highway in Jagir BSIC industrial area in the sadar upazila yesterday. In Mymensingh, schoolboy Rakib, 8, son of Milon Miah, was killed when a three-wheeler hit him on Banogram-Dewanganj road at Beltoil in Nandail upazila yesterday. In Narail, at least 30 people were injured as a bus hit a roadside tree at Shitarapur in the sadar upazila yesterday.
