JU students raise money for Padma bridge

Students of public administration department at Jahangirnagar University have raised a total of Tk 5,087 for construction of the Padma bridge as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared to finance the bridge construction from the country's own sources. On behalf of the department, its Chairman Prof Mahmudur Rahman handed over the money to Vice-Chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain yesterday. Meanwhile, a section of teachers of the university staged demonstration yesterday as part of their two-day long protest programme over the upcoming vice-chancellor panel election, which is scheduled to be held on July 20. The teachers under the banner of Sammilita Sikkhak Parishad held the protest programme in front of the administrative building at around 11:00am while a number of teachers from different departments were present. They urged the authorities not to hold the VC panel election before deans, provosts, syndicate members, Jahangirnagar University Central Students Union (Jucsu) and registered graduates' election.
