29 BCL men indicted in arms case in Sylhet

Police submitted a charge sheet on Wednesday against 29 former leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in an arms case filed in connection with an attempted land grabbing in the sadar upazila's Chhalia area. The accused include former BCL leader Pijush Kanti Dey and workers Faruque Ahmed alias Kala Faruque and Jagotjyoti Talukder. Aminul Islam, sub-inspector of Airport Police Station, submitted the charge sheet with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court. On May 14, the hired BCL men carrying firearms and other weapons launched an attempt to occupy some disputed land for a man in the area and clashed with the villagers, which left at least 50 people injured. About a hundred gunshots were fired during the clash, and four firearms were recovered from the Chattra League men's possession. Following the incident, police filed a case against them with Airport Police Station on charge of carrying illegal and unauthorised fire arms.
