Councillor, BCL dist president sued
Two cases were filed yesterday against 26 persons including the local ward councillor and the district Bangladesh Chhatra League president for vandalising shops and looting money on July 8 in Tilagar area in Sylhet.
Businessmen Kabir Ahmed and Asaduzzaman, both owners of shops in Tilagar area, filed the cases.
The accused include councillor Azadur Rahman Azad, district BCL President Pankaj Purkayostha, district AL Youth and Sports Secretary Ranjit Sarker, and Sylhet Government College BCL President Debangshu Dey Mithu.
Contacted, Azadur Rahman Azad said the businessmen lodged the cases to cover up their attack on a procession brought out by BCL on the day.
On July 8, a group of miscreants opened fire on the BCL procession injuring 20 activists. A case was filed in this connection against Kabir and others.
