Meet 'logical' demands of Buet teachers

Moudud asks govt
Unb, Dhaka
Blaming the government for the deadlock in Buet, BNP leader Moudud Ahmed yesterday asked the authorities concerned to meet the “logical” demands of its teachers and students. “Non-fulfilment of the logical demands of Buet teachers and students has turned into a movement. So, meet their demand before time runs out,” Moudud told a discussion meeting at the Jatiya Press Club. Jatiyatabadi Karmajibi Kalyan Parishad, a pro-BNP platform, organised the discussion. He also said the government has destroyed academic atmosphere in the country's public universities by politicising their administration. “Buet vice-chancellor (VC) is a state-patronised man like other VCs of the country's public universities,” he told the audience. This government has appointed ruling party-backed persons as VCs without considering their educational quality and capability, and these are the main reasons behind the campus unrest, he observed. Hundreds of students, teachers and employees of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) continued their demonstration in front of the administrative building yesterday to press home their 16-point demand including resignation of the VC and pro-VC.
