2 road projects under PPP get cabinet nod
The government would turn two roads into four lanes on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework.
The cabinet committee on economic affairs yesterday approved the "Hemayetpur-Singair-Manikganj Road Four Lane Development Project" at a cost of Tk 480 crore and the "Jatrabari-Sultana Kamal Bridge-Tarabo Road Four Lane Development Project" at Tk 360 crore for constructing the roads under the PPP mechanism.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith chaired the meeting at the secretariat in the capital.
The Hemayetpur-Singair-Manikganj road will help reduce Dhaka-Aricha distance by about 18km while the other road will ease traffic jam on Jatrabari-Kanchpur road, the committee said.
The cabinet committee also approved the proposal of Power Development Board (PDB) to buy gas from Santos, an Australian energy ginat, at additional prices than existing rates from Sangu Gas Field on the block-16 in the Bay of Bengal.
The move aims to solve gas crisis in the Chittagong region and supply gas to power plants suffering from gas shortage.
