Students keep agitating for tests
Medical college admission aspirants in Chittagong city yesterday protested the government's decision to admit students on the basis of SSC and HSC examination scores and demanded admission tests.
The students brought up the demand at a rally, blocking the road in front of Chittagong Press Club for two hours and a half.
A number of senior academicians and professionals expressed solidarity with the demand. They were Prof Mostafa Kamal of University of Science and Technology Chittagong, Dr Sushanta Barua of Chittagong Medical College, former general secretary of Chittagong District Bar Association Advocate Akhter Kabir Chowdhury, Chittagong City Corporation Councillor Jannatul Ferdous, and Prof Idris Ali of Chittagong Government College.
They said due to the surprise decision, students who had been preparing for a long time would fail to enrol in medical and dental colleges.
They also feared corruption in the GPA-based admission and asked why the government did not ban coaching centres when it said it took the decision to stop admission coaching business.
The speakers called for immediate withdrawal of the decision.
