12 killed, 64 hurt in road crashes
Twelve people were killed and sixty-four others injured in separate road accidents in Munshiganj, Chittagong, Tangail and Pabna yesterday.
Our Munshiganj correspondent reports, five people were killed and 49 others injured as a Dhaka-bound bus from Homna collided with a Chandpur-bound bus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Jamaldi area of Gajaria upazila yesterday.
The four were travelling on the Chandpur-bound bus. However, their identities could not be known immediately.
Of the injured, 19 were admitted to Bhaberchar Health Complex Gajaria while the rest at different hospitals in Sonargaon upazila and in the capital.
Following the accident, the traffic on the road halted for some time.
In Chittagong, an unidentified man, aged around 60, died as a jeep ran him over in Choumuhoni area in the city early yesterday.
In another incident, pick-up van driver Suleman, 32, died instantly as the van, driven by its helper, hit a truck from behind on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Sitakunda upazila yesterday morning.
Yet another incident, Israful Jannat Promi, 7, daughter of Md Ayub, of Anwara upazila, was killed instantly as a microbus crushed her while she was crossing the road in Mailer Matha area of the city yesterday morning.
In Tangail, two motorcyclists died instantly when a bus hit their motorbike from the opposite direction on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Sohagpur area of Mirzapur upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased are Masud Rana, 22, son of Nurul Islam, and Limon, 20, son of Mosharaf Hossain.
In another incident, an unidentified man died and five others were injured when two buses collided head-on on Tangail-Bhuapur road in Razabari area of Kalihati upazila around 10:00am yesterday.
In Pabna, bus helper Md Hassem Ali, 35, died and 10 others were injured as the bus hit a tree beside Pabna-Rajshahi highway in Kalikapur point yesterday morning.
