Stop private coaching

Indeed, the incumbent education minister has taken a bold step to contain private tutoring. There was a time when teachers used to treat their students as their own sons and daughters, and they were not involved in private coaching. But now they are busy tutoring privately. Not just that, they often harass students in many ways if they do not take private coacjing from them. Thus, several thousands of poor students fail to make good results. Another problem is the politicisation of the school committees where the members often select unqualified persons as teachers. These are the main reasons for disappointing results in most of the schools. A recent incident of Jessore Board clearly bears testimony to this. A specific subject of the commerce group, which was not included in their syllabus, came to the notice of the administration of a school two months before the recently held SSC examination. It was only when that the board informed the school about it. Even worse, the school authorities did not take any measures to offset the blunder. We urge the authorities concerned to implement the policy on private coaching immediately and take pragmatic steps so that all students get quality education and the nation gets quality citizens.
