Here are some comments that came in response to Tuesday's The Daily Star news report headlined “Resignation ball in Mashiur's court” Mizan Rahman
Why should PM request Dr Mashiur to resign? Dr Mashiur can decide himself. He knows what to do for the greater interest of the nation. It is not the time to judge who is right or who is wrong. Truth will come out one day. Jaffar Ullah
World Bank is not a naive organisation. They know very well that even if they re-activate the loan, corruption will continue. Barkat
Politicians consider themselves more important than the nation. That's why Bangladesh still remains a poor country. Anonymous
No revival of the WB loan. Bangladesh is not hitting the right point. Fida Likhon
People of Bangladesh should not suffer because of an adviser. People's need is more important than one Mashiur. Firoz
Sorry to see the situation of my motherland! Tawfik Sattar
Every citizen wants Mashiur Rahman to resign immediately for the greater interest of the country. Padma bridge corruption already questioned this government's credibility. The government should save its face by ousting Mashiur right now. Saleh Md. Shahriar
The government is apparently run by a powerful circle of advisers. They are not elected representatives. The source of their power is mysterious. Rani
Prime minister does not care about the people of Bangladesh as much as she cares about her favourite people. It is unfortunate for the people of Bangladesh. Mashiur Rahman should resign from his post for the sake of the nation. Niloufar Sarker
World Bank's hard stand on perceived corruption is hypocritical. The institution itself is hugely corrupt according to a Forbes magazine article. For a corrupt institution to bully a poor country like BD is shameful. Truth Teller
The AL government will never learn anything from the past. Faizul Islam
Mashiur Rahman, please give importance to the interest of Bangladesh over your personal or party interest. Reaz Hassan
Lack of political will and commitment to rise above self interest is hurting the nation. We have belittled ourselves in so many ways that the international community cannot trust us any longer. We have to remember the dictum: 'Beggars can't be choosers'. Mahmood
The brave Bangalees proved themselves in 1971. We just need strong political commitment, national consensus and patriotism. Our national budget goes around US$24 billion, whereas the estimated cost of Padma Bridge is US$3 billion (1/8th of the budget). Could we not make it happen with our own funding? Dr. Iftikhar-ul-Awwal
The long dispute over Padma bridge project between the World Bank and the Bangladesh government should cease immediately. Forgetting the unnecessary bickering, the WB should open up its window of everlasting friendship and cooperation. I urge the WB not to crucify 160 million people who need its assistance to change their quality of life more than the fortune hunters around us. The whole nation is waiting for a positive gesture from the WB.
