Do not dishonour our Nobel laureate
Prof Yunus is one of the most famous and honoured personalities in the present day world. He is the founder-philosopher of Grameen Bank which has shown to the world the unique way of eradicating poverty through microcredit. Grameen is now a universally accepted model and Grameen-type microcredit or microfinance programmes is being launched and conducted in most of the countries of the world today.
But most unfortunately, a genius like Prof Yunus is now a victim of ruling political party's wrath in his own country! He has been removed from the post of MD of GB and powers of GB's poor borrower-owners have been drastically curtailed. A smearing campaign is still on to belittle the man for reasons unknown to us.
In my humble opinion, it would have been very much proper and befitting if Prof Yunus could serve GB as long as he wished or remained physically and mentally fit. He should have also got the authority to select his successor, because he knows best how his brain-child GB can be run and managed best.
Can't our government change its stand and attitude towards Prof. Yunus? If we fail to honour our Nobel lareate, we as a nation will one day be reduced to zero!
