Jatiya Adivasi Parishad long march starts Oct 2
Jatiya Adivasi Parishad, a platform for the indigenous people, will launch a two-day long march towards Rajshahi from Nachole in Chapainawabganj on October 2 to press home their four-point demand, including enactment of a law on indigenous peoples' rights.
The other demands are formation of a national commission for indigenous affairs, formation of an independent land commission for the indigenous people living in plain lands and inclusion of all indigenous communities left out from the government records.
Leaders of the parishad declared the programme at a press conference at Nawabganj Club in the town yesterday.
The long march will start from Nachole bus stand in Nachole municipal area at 10:00am and proceed through Amnura of Chapainawabganj and Mundumala of Rajshahi, and halt for a night at Kakonhat of Rajshahi.
Later, on October 3, it will march through Rajabarihat and Kashiadanga square and end at the Rajshahi divisional commissioner's office where the parishad will hand over a memorandum to the commissioner. Rabindranath Soren, president of Jatiya Adivasi Parishad's central committee, and its former president Anil Kumar Marandi also spoke.
