Bangladesh seeks Norwegian help

Bangladesh has requested Norway to provide financial and technical support in marine fisheries resource survey, biotechnology and fisheries management to develop the country's fisheries sector. Visiting Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdul Latif Biswas made the request when he called on Norwegian Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Minister Lisbeth Berg-Hansen in Oslo on Thursday, according a message received here yesterday. Lisbeth Berg-Hansen assured Biswas of providing all possible support to Bangladesh to develop its fisheries sector. During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed Hilsa management, fisheries research and marine fisheries of Bangladesh. Later, Minister Abdul Latif Biswas met Villa Kulild, director general Norwegian international aid agency Norad, and discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest. Director General of Fisheries Directorate Syed Arif Azad, joint secretary Shamsul Kibria and research coordinator of World Fish Centre Bangladesh and South Asia Office Binoy Kumar Barman, among others, were present at the meeting.
