Death anniversary
Today is the 59th death anniversary of legendary litterateur Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad. On the occasion, a memorial speech will be held in RC Majumder Auditorium of Dhaka University at 4:00pm, said a press release. A discussion about his life and activities will also be held in Bangla Academy auditorium at the same time, it said. In 1995, Abdul Karim was posthumously awarded Shadhinota Padak for his outstanding contribution to Bangla literature. During the British rule when Bangalee Muslims were confused about whether their mother tongue was Bangla or Urdu, he was the only person who raised his voice for Bangla through his writings.
