Probe body formed
Six arrested activist get bail
The Chittagong University (CU) authority yesterday formed a four-member probe body to investigate into Saturday's clash between two shuttle train compartment-based groups, comprising the ruling pro-Awami League Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists.
The CU authority, on May 11 last year, banned the activities of 20 or so groups that the CU BCL activists have split into based on 18 compartments of two shuttle trains making seven trips between Chittagong city to CU every day.
Yesterday the court of Hathazari Executive Magistrate Masud Parvez granted bail to six arrested activists, accused in a case filed on Saturday night after the clash, till October 16.
The case was filed by CU BCL Vice President Sabbir Ahmed Chowdhury with Hathazari Police Station accusing a total 22 activists, including Organising Secretary Alamgir Tipu.
The activists on bail are CU BCL Cultural Secretary Jamir Uddin, Education and Study Circle Secretary Monsurul Alam, Deputy Press and Publication Secretary Abu Torab Porosh, Deputy Secretary Rupak Hasan Shahriar and members Kamrul Hasan Rayhan and Jahedul Islam.
Meanwhile, CU unit BCL recommended BCL Central Committee to permanently expel Deputy Secretary Kamrul Hasan and activists Arafat Hossain, Saiful Hoque, and Md Rakib and put a one-month bar on Alamgir Tipu from participating in organisational activities.
CU unit BCL, in an emergency meeting, also recommended the suspension of Financial Secretary Abu Kaiser Rony and members Shuvo and Imon for six months and Cultural Secretary Jamir Uddin and member Monsurul Alam for three months.
