Two schoolgirls were found dead yesterday at Bosila in the capital's Mohammadpur area, a day after they had gone missing. Police recovered the bodies of Soma, 10, and Urmi, 9, from a canal around 11:00am. The victims were third-grader in the same school. Quoting the victims' families, police said the girls went missing on their way to school on Monday morning. The duo lived at Kadirabad Housing in Mohammadpur. Urmi's father Kamal Hossain said his daughter headed out for school around 7:00am. However, she did not return. Soma also did not return after she had went out for school, said the victim's family. Other students informed the families that the girls had not arrived at school. Instead, they had seen the girls together going towards Bosila, about half a kilometer from their school. Following the information, police launched search in the area and ultimately found the bodies floating on the Bosila canal. Rejaul Karim, sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station, said the girls might have drowned while playing, as they did not find any injury mark on their bodies. Soma's father Alauddin filed an unnatural death case with the police station.
