Bangladesh to eradicate Rabies

The on-going battle to control rabies has created another victim-man's best friend. Twenty million dogs are brutally killed every year worldwide, many as a direct result of the fear and miscomprehension around rabies. More than 55,000 people die from rabies every year globally — with authorities recording up to 2,100 of those deaths in Bangladesh. New era of medical science came to the world for the people affected by dogs to protect rabies. Washing the affected body area by detergents and water for 15 minutes, category of bite selection by the professional doctor and push vaccination and immunoglobulin has arranged for the patients. These activities had started in National Rabies Protection Centre in Dhaka and gradually expanded in all district hospitals in Bangladesh. These hospitals are now equipped to provide with advanced treatment for rabies. To vaccinate a dog is a proven solution to eliminate rabies. By vaccinating 70% of dogs at any area can endure 100% elimination of rabies by a certain time. It started in Chittagong in 2011 and then in Rajshahi and others districts in Bangladesh. Dog vaccination has completed in 35 district of Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet by the end of September this year. Elimination of Rabies needs many dimensional help from different parts of the society. Many organisations are working in association with the Government in this regard.
