Leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday said the Awami League-led grand alliance government has failed to implement the electoral pledges, which were made to ease livelihood of people. Despite the government's promises to reduce price hikes of commodities, there have been numerous increases of commodity price which caused sufferings for the common people, they said. They made these remarks at an inaugural session of the party's 10th congress at the capital's Mahanagar Natya Manch. Along with the major financial scandals, bribery, partisanship, tendering, grabbing, commercialisation of admissions in educational institutions, kidnappings, disappearances, killings and other incidences have been increasing in the country which has angered people, said Mujahidul Islam Selim, CPB secretary general. CPB President Monjurul Ahsan Khan said the country's sovereignty and independence are threatened due to national and international conspiracies and the two major political parties of the country are responsible for this situation.
