Road crashes kill one, injure eleven

A trucker was killed and at least 11 people, including ten army men, were injured in separate road accidents in Gaibandha and Tangail on Saturday and yesterday. Our Gaibandha correspondent reports, a truck driver was killed and his helper injured when the vehicle fell into a ditch beside Gobindaganj-Dinajpur road at Shahebganj cane farm on Saturday night. Police said the Dinajpur-bound goods-laden truck plunged into the ditch when it tried to go back as a gang of robbers put up barricades on the road with logs. The trucker Ramjan Ali, 45, succumbed to his injuries on the way to a health complex. The injured was Rezaul, 25, the truck helper. Our Tangail correspondent reports, a total of 10 army men were injured when their truck skidded off Bangabandhu Bridge approach road in Salla area of Kalihati upazila yesterday morning. Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rezaul Islam Khan said the truck carrying the army men were going to Ghatail Cantonment from Jamuna Cantonment at the eastern end of the bridge. Being informed, a team from the Jamuna Cantonment rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Combined Military Hospital in Ghatail Cantonment, the SI added.
