Drug peddlers snatch 3 cohorts beating up cops

A group of drug peddlers beat up six policemen, vandalised a police pickup and snatched away three arrested drug addicts at Khudro Jamira village in Puthia upazila on Monday night. Police fired shots to disperse the attackers and rescued the police personnel. The policemen from Puthia Police Station were attacked around 8:00pm when they raided the house of drug peddlers Hanif and his brother Alam. They were clobbered with sticks, their pickup was vandalised and three arrested drug users were snatched away. Of the injured, Constable Shahidul Islam was admitted to the upazila health complex. Soon after the attack, a team of 25 policemen arrived at the scene and rescued them. Puthia police claimed that the drug peddlers were angry, as police were conducting anti-drug drives for the last few weeks in the village.
