Road crashes kill 6

Six people were killed and 29 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Narsingdi, Rangpur, Chapainawabganj, Jhenidah and Khulna on Monday and yesterday. Our staff correspondent reports, a man died instantly as an unknown vehicle ran him over before Hazrat Shahjala International Airport in the capital early yesterday. He was identified as Yusuf Kanu, 52. In Narsingdi, two motorcyclists were killed instantly and another was injured as a passenger bus ran the trio over on Narsingdi-Monohordi road in Badoi Algi area yesterday evening. The deceased were Farid Uddin Jamal, 40, and Kazi Shahadat Hossain, 42. Injured Joynal Abedin, 42, was admitted to Narsingdi 100-bed hospital and, later, was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In Rangpur, bicyclist Abul Kalam, 35, son of late Nuru Mian of Bakchi village, was killed and three rickshaw passengers were injured as a pickup hit the two vehicles from behind on Rangpur-Pirgachha road in Bakchi bridge area of sadar upazila on Monday evening. The injured were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. In Chapainawabganj, a boy died as a truck ran him over on Chapainawabganj-Rohonpur road at Chapai village of sadar upazila yesterday morning. The victim was Sanaullah, 2, son of Abdul Jalil of the village. After the accident, angry locals block the road for about one hour. In Jhenidah, a bicyclist boy died instantly after he was run over by a speeding bus on Jhenidah-Chuadanga highway near Sadhuhati in sadar upazila yesterday afternoon. The deceased Asasdul Islam, 12, son of Haran Mandal of Potahati village in the upazila, was a labourer at Sadhuhati seed production firm under Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation. UNB from Khulna reports, at least 25 people were injured when a bus plunged into a ditch beside Khulna-Terokhada road at Ajgora in Terokhada upazila on Monday night. Police said the Khulna-bound bus from Terokhada met the accident as it tried to give side to a truck coming from the opposite direction at about 8:00pm. The injured were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital and other local clinics.
