Graft Case Against Sajeda
HC stays trial proceedings
The High Court yesterday stayed the proceedings of a corruption case against Deputy Leader of the Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury for six months.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on July 10, 2008 on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 13.75 lakh and concealing information about this.
Yesterday, the HC also issued a rule upon the ACC and the government to explain in three weeks why the case against the Awami League leader should not be quashed.
The HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Justice Farid Ahmed came up with the rule and order following a petition filed by Sajeda on October 14.
The petition said the proceedings cannot be run at the trial court since the ACC could not complete its investigation in the stipulated time (three-month) after filing of the case.
