Dipu Moni urges Kuwait to help set up oil refinery
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni yesterday requested the Kuwaiti government to assist Bangladesh set up an oil refinery and to consider taking deferred payments on petroleum products Bangladesh imports from Kuwait.
The foreign minister, now in Kuwait to attend the 1st Asian Cooperation Dialogue Summit, came up with the request during a meeting with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Explaining Bangladesh's investor-friendly policies and legal regime, Dipu Moni sought the PM's personal intervention in encouraging Kuwaiti investment in Bangladesh while discussing on Kuwaiti assistance for the procurement of dredgers, says a foreign ministry press release.
Thanking the PM for raising the minimum workers' wage to 60 Kuwaiti Dinars from 20 Kuwaiti Dinars, she also requested the Kuwaiti government to recruit more skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshis.
The PM assured that his government would give positive consideration to the requests.
He recalled with gratitude Bangladesh's support during the Kuwait War and the continued support by Bangladesh armed forces to Kuwait till date. He mentioned of his high impression of Bangladesh military as previous minister of defence of Kuwait.
Earlier, Vice Foreign Minister of Vietnam Le Luong Minh called on Dipu Moni and discussed on the issue of the prime ministerial bilateral visit to Vietnam early next month.
