The Supreme Court yesterday stayed a High Court verdict that cleared the way for continuing the trial proceedings of a corruption case against BNP leader and former health minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain till today. The court passed the order hours after hearing a petition submitted by Mosharraf seeking stay on the HC verdict. The court also sent the same stay petition to the full bench of the Appellate Division for its hearing today. Earlier on October 16, the HC rejected a petition of Mosharraf for quashing the proceedings of the case. On January 10, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Ramna Police Station against Mosharraf on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 12.51 crore and concealing information about Tk 3.11 crore. The case is now pending at the Special Judges Court-8 of Dhaka.
