Corruption case against Moudud

SC again stays trial proceedings

The Supreme Court yesterday again extended till November 11 its earlier order that stayed the proceedings of a corruption case against BNP leader Moudud Ahmed. The SC also directed Moudud to file a leave to appeal petition with the court against a High Court verdict in the case. On September 16, 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against Moudud on charge of amassing wealth worth over Tk 7.38 crore illegally and concealing information about his wealth of over Tk 4.4 crore from the commission. On October 7, the HC cleared the way for continuing the proceedings of the case. Chamber judge of the Appellate Division on October 9 stayed the trial proceedings of the case after Moudud filed a petition with it seeking stay on the HC verdict. On October 11, the appellate division extended till October 18 its chamber judge's order after a petition submitted by Moudud.
