13th Amendment
SC verdict to create political unrest: Moudud
The Supreme Court (SC) verdict on the constitution's thirteenth amendment will create serious political unrest and confrontation in the society, observed BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed yesterday.
“The verdict was given on the basis of political ideology of the then chief justice ABM Khairul Haque which people will never accept,” Moudud, a veteran lawmaker, said while speaking at a book launching programme at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital's Ramna.
Two books were launched -- Amendments of the Constitution of Bangladesh: Legislative versus Judicial and The 13th Amendment Judgment -- both written by Abdul Halim, a Supreme Court lawyer.
Speaking as chief guest, Moudud said no higher court in any other country has delivered a verdict that divided people, created unrest and confrontation in the society.
“But in Bangladesh, the Supreme Court delivered such a verdict [on 13th amendment] which has divided our people to a great extent causing conflict between them,” Moudud asserted.
