Cattle market grabbers attack NCC officials

At least 10 people including officials of Naraynganj City Corporation were injured in an attack by some criminals when the officials went to free a cattle market from illegal occupiers in Bandar upazila yesterday. Ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha, a tense situation has been prevailing in the area over setting up the market. Naraynganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy said they have recently leased out the place with Tk 48 lakh for setting up a makeshift cattle market in Khyea Ghat area on the bank of Shitalakha river. But an influential quarter occupied the place illegally, she said adding that some criminals attacked the officials when they went to free the place from the occupiers. Legal action will be taken against the persons who are responsible for the attack, the city mayor said. Akther Hossain, acting officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station, said a scuffle broke out when the city corporation officials went to free the market. Additional police forces have been deployed to avert any untoward incidents, the OC said.
