China ready to boost relation
Says top-ranking CPC leader
A top leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) yesterday said China is ready to enhance cooperation with Bangladesh in the UN, Saarc and Asean regional forums to safeguard peace, stability and prosperity.
Li Changchun, fifth top member of CPC's Political Bureau Standing Committee, said they want to expand cooperation with Bangladesh in culture, education, science, technology, media, and tourism sectors.
Leading an eight-member high-powered CPC delegation at the ruling Awami League's invitation, he said these at a dinner at a Dhaka hotel with leaders of AL, BNP, Jatiya Party and others. Li said they would increase Chinese government scholarships for Bangladeshi students from 160 to 250 and want to set up computer and technology institutions in Bangladeshi universities.
At the dinner, Home Minister MK Alamgir sought Chinese cooperation in building "Digital Bangladesh".
AL Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said the visit considered a most important one focuses on strengthening China's relations with Bangladesh and AL.
Before leaving for Beijing today, Li will meet the president, prime minister, and opposition leader and sign an economic and technical cooperation agreement and MoU on strengthening cooperation in the power sector.
