BCL Violence

Moudud demands judicial probe

BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed yesterday demanded a judicial probe committee to investigate the violence and criminal activities of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the country's educational institutions. “The country's law and order situation has totally broken down. Chhatra League and Jubo League activists are getting involved in criminal activities. The government should investigate their destructive activities but we know that it will not be done,” he said. Moudud was delivering a lecture, “Violence in educational institutions”, organised by Mukto Chinta Forum, a platform for human rights, in the capital's Dhaka Reporters Unity. He said there was a big difference between pre- and post-independence activities of BCL, a pro-Awami League student organisation. “Now Chhatra League means violence.” Incidents of BCL activists assaulting teachers are really insulting and unimaginable. However, when the party itself insults honoured persons like Dr Muhammad Yunus, ABM Musa, Dr Kamal Hossain and Barrister Rafiq-ul Haque, it is possible for its student organisation to insult teachers, he said.
