JU appoints new proctor
Associate Prof Shohel Ahmed of biochemistry and molecular biology department was appointed Jahangirnagar University's (JU) proctor yesterday for two years, replacing Prof Tapan Kumar Shaha of chemistry department.
Prof Tapan, appointed proctor on January 17 after the then proctor Prof Arzu Miah stepped down in the face of protests by teachers and students over Zubair Ahmed's murder, resigned showing personal reasons.
Zubair, of the English department, died a day after being beaten up by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists on January 8.
