Speakers at a human chain yesterday demanded immediate gas supply to households in Rajshahi city. Gas supply to the industrial units through pipelines was launched in the city in July this year. The speakers also urged the government to establish an agriculture university in the city as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's assurance given at a public meeting two years ago. Around 100 people under the banner of Rajshahi Rokkha Sangram Parisad (RRSP) formed the human chain at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point in the city. They urged the government to restart the Rajshahi silk industry and implement the project of North Rajshahi Irrigation immediately. They also threatened to go for a tougher programme if the authorities concerned did not meet their demands considering those urgent for the city dwellers. Local lawmaker Fazley Hossain Badsha, RRSP Secretary Jamat Khan, local Awami League leader Prof Lutfor Rahman, BNP leader Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, city unit JSD secretary Abdullah-Al-Masud Shebley, city unit Jatiya Party secretary MM Joha Sarkar, CPB city unit President Abul Kalam Azad, and journalist Mostafijur Rahman Khan Alam, also addressed the event.
