28 more Jamaat-Shibir men arrested
Law enforcers arrested at least 28 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir in four districts in the last two days.
They were detained on charges of involvement in acts of violence, planning violence and attack on police or suspected link to destructive activities.
Fifteen of them were arrested in Narayanganj, nine in Netrakona, one in Manikganj, and three in Madaripur.
On Wednesday night, Narayanganj police arrested nine people suspecting them as activists of Jamaat and Shibir in the city's Paikpara area.
Police also arrested a ward councilor of Narayanganj city, Alamgir Hossain, in the city and five Jamaat and Shibir men in Rupganj upazila yesterday.
In Netrakona, police arrested nine Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists in different upazilas on charge of their involvement in planning violent activities.
The detainees include Jamaat's sadar upazila leader Abdur Rouf and Atpara upazila leader Rafiqul Islam and one Rukon Abul Hossain Talukdar.
Our Manikganj correspondent says police arrested Nurul Islam Nahid, a district unit Shibir leader, at Purbapara village in Ghior upazila yesterday.
Police said Nahid might have link to planning violence. He was sent to Manikganj jail. In Madaripur, three Jamaat-Shibir activists, including Jamaat's Shibchar upazila General Secretary Belayet Hossain, were arrested yesterday.
Police also arrested one Dudu Mia and Shibir leader Al-Amin.
