Koica to give $6.53m to build school IT labs, cop probe centre

Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) will provide US $ 3.53 million to Bangladesh for establishing information technology (IT) labs in 100 secondary government schools of Dhaka to improve computer literacy and ICT knowledge of students. To enhance cyber crime investigation capability of Bangladesh Police, Koica will also grant US $ 3 million assistance to the Criminal Investigation Department to set up a Cyber Crime Investigation Centre and an ICT Training Centre. Koica and Economic Relations Division (ERD) signed two separate agreements in these connections yesterday, said an official press release. Resident Representative of Koica Bangladesh Office Kim Bok-Hee, Joint Secretary of ERD Mohammad Asif-uz-Zaman, Chief (Planning) of education ministry Sarder Ilias Hossain, and Joint Secretary of home ministry Shawkat Mostafa signed the agreements on behalf of their respective organisations. As per the agreement with Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education of Bangladesh, Koica will invite local teachers to Korea to train them on ICT skills. Koica will also arrange training for Bangladeshi police in Korea to better check cyber crimes.
