36 injured in clashes in two districts
At least 36 people were injured in clashes between rival groups in Gopalganj and Gaibandha districts on Friday.
Over 30 people, including two policemen, were injured as two groups of villagers clashed in Patgati bus stand area under Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj on Friday night, reports a correspondent.
Of the injured, officer in-charge Habibullah Sarker and ASI Enamul Haque of Tungipara police station were admitted to the upazila health complex while the rest given first aid.
Inspector Noor Hossain said an altercation took place between one Liton Munshi of Pathgati village and Sariful Molla of Gimadanga, both tempo drivers, over parking their vehicles at the bus stand at around 7:00pm.
At one stage, the supporters of the duo attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving at least 30 injured.
The law enforcers hurled six tear gas shells to bring the situation under control, said the inspector.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble, he added.
Away in Gaibandha, at least six people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over a piece of disputed land at Huraviakhan village in Sunderganj upazila on Friday evening.
Of them, four sustained serious injuries, reports our correspondent.
Police said the clash took place when the supporters of one Omar Ali of the village resisted the men of Moksedul Alam, councilor of Sunderganj municipality, who went to the land for planting boro seedlings.
