Five Hizb-ut Tawhid men arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five alleged members of Islamist outfit Hizb-ut Tawhid in the city early yesterday. They also recovered 483 Islamic books, a huge quantity of leaflets, VCDs and DVDs on jihad (uprising) from their possession. The arrestees are Md Moksed Ali, 35, of Patharpara in Narshingdi, Mehedi Hasan, 19, of Kalkini in Madaripur districts, Hafiza Akter, 17, of Narashinhapur in Uzirpur upazila, Rahima Sultana, 26, and Parveen Akter, 29, of ward no 24 of Barisal. Lt Col Farid Hossain, commanding officer of Rab-8, said on secret information, a team raided Rupatali bus stand area and arrested Ali and Mehedi. Following the duo's confessional statement, the elite force then arrested the female activists at BIP-Gate Palbari on Band Road in the city.
