BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Miah yesterday said the country is not safe in the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “Not only the country's people but also its existence, freedom and sovereignty are not safe in the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said. The BNP leader was addressing a roundtable discussion organised by Jatiyatabadi Projonmo 71 held in the capital's Jatiya Press Club. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the country will never be safe in the hands of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia as she is surrounded by anti-liberation forces that are nothing but poisonous snakes. Rafiqul Islam Miah, also a former minister, urged the prime minister to discard the politics of vengeance for the country's sake. “Otherwise, country's democracy will be at stake,” he added. “If you (Hasina) truly want the safety and development of the country, you should withdraw the false cases filed against the BNP leaders, including its chairperson Khaleda Zia,” he continued. Meanwhile, in a human chain organised by Dhaka-based student forum of Natore district in front of the Jatiya Press Club, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said the government is not the government of common people.
