1/11 Changeover

Opposition's black flag procession January 11

The BNP-led 18-party alliance will bring out black flag processions across the country on January 11 protesting the 2007 political changeover. A military-backed government took over the state power on January 11, 2007 (widely known as 1/11) for nearly two years, when top political and business leaders were put behind bars. BNP spokesperson Tariqul Islam announced the fresh agitation programmes at a press briefing at the party's Naya Paltan central office in the capital after observing a dawn-to -dusk hartal yesterday protesting fuel price hike. The BNP leader said the party will also stage a rally before the party office tomorrow protesting the killing of Rafiqul Islam Mojumder, general secretary of BNP Dhaka City Corporation Ward No. 56. Police recovered the handcuffed body of Rafiqul from Kushtia last Saturday night nearly three and a half hours after he was picked up allegedly by law enforcers from Jhenidah. He alleged that government agents and criminals had committed the pre-hartal violence on Saturday to implicate opposition leaders in "false" cases.
