Relatives of a pregnant woman, who died due to alleged neglect of doctors, vandalised Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital yesterday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Fatema Begum, 35, wife of Abdul Kuddus of Jagannathpur village in Sadar Upazila. Family members said, on January 5, Fatema was admitted to the hospital where the doctors told them that she needed a caesarean operation. Fatema was left bleeding from the night of Tuesday but doctors did not conduct operation on her, resulting in her death at around 12:30pm, said Babu, 26, nephew of the deceased. Her situation was deteriorating gradually but the doctors did not pay proper attention, said Babu. As the death news spread, relatives of the woman swooped on the hospital and smashed its doors, windows and furniture. On information, police rushed to spot. They dispersed the aggrieved people and brought the situation under control. Contacted, Dr. Nazma Begum, gynecology consultant at the hospital, said that they had asked the family members to mange blood during acute labour pain but they failed. “Fatema died as blood was not managed timely”, she said. A three-member investigation team has been fromed. The team has been asked to submit report within three days, said Dr. Enamul Haque, acting civil surgeon in the district.
