An hour-long 'mass hunger-strike' was observed at Shatmatha in the town yesterday noon, demanding exemplary punishment to the killers of Khairul Anam Rekkat, 35, joint convenor of Town Swechchhasebok League. Speakers at the programme, organised by District Swechchhasebok League said that the main killers were still moving scot-free. They shot Rekkat dead at his business centre at Rahman Nagor in the town on 17 December, 2012, the participants said. The next day, the father of the deceased Abdul Qaiyum Ofa filed a case with Bogra Sadar PS, accusing 17 people. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bogra asked officer-in-charge (OC) of Detective Branch (DB) Mizanur Rahman to investigate the case. Contacted, a frustrated Qaiyum alleged that the main killers of the Rekkat had already gone out of police dragnet and demanded their arrest. After the incident, district Swechchhasebok League declared a month-long programme to press for arrest of the killers. District Swechchhasebok League President Asadul Haque Dulu said they had urged the law enforcers to arrest the Rekkat killers soon but to no effect. They arranged the mass hunger strike yesterday as part of the month-long programme. Contacted, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and OC, DB Mizanur Rahman said they arrested eight people so far and were trying to arrest the rest of the accused. Circle Senior ASP Mokbul Hossen said that killers must be caught and none should go unpunished.
