Two alleged cow lifters were killed in a mob beating in Senerchar area of Tungipara upazila early yesterday. The deceased were identified as Farhad Mollah, 26, son of Insan Mollah of Nilpha village and Sheikh Kabir Hossain, 38, son of Abdur Razzak of Korfa village. Habibur Rahman, officer in-charge at Tungipara police station, said a gang of cow lifters took away seven cattle from the area. Hearing the hue and cry, the villagers chased the thieves and caught Farhad and Kabir when they entered the cowshed of one Dinobandhu Bala of the area at midnight. Later, the mob gave the duo a good beating. Critically injured, they died at local hospital. They were sent to the upazila health complex where the doctors declared them dead, he said. Meanwhile, a day labourer was beaten to death allegedly by his rival over a piece of disputed land at Shuklombodia village in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Abdus Sattar Pramanik, 55, of the village, reports our Faridpur correspondent. Police said there was a longstanding conflict between Sattar and one Ali Mollah of Bolorampur village over the land. As a sequel to the conflict, a gang of 7/8 allegedly led by Ali picked up Sattar from a terminal of Padma River at around 9:00am and beat him up mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.
