11 killed in road accidents

Eleven people were killed and 17 others injured in separate road accidents in the capital, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Sunamganj, Naogaon and Mymensingh yesterday and on Saturday. BSS from Dhaka reports, a rickshaw-van puller died as a Gulisthan-bound bus ran him over just after he got off another bus at English Road intersection in the capital's old part around 6:30am yesterday. Jamin Madbar, 50, of Faridpur, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 8:30am. Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports, a motorcyclist was killed instantly when a tractor hit the motorbike at Chowrangi intersection in Debiganj upazila in Panchagarh around 2:00pm yesterday. The dead, Fazle Rabbi Razu, 30, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) upazila unit president, hailed from Madyapara village in the upazila. Meanwhile, Abdus Salam, 23, of Ranishankoil upazila, was killed when a tractor hit his motorbike from behind on Haripur-Dharmagarh road at Amgaon village in Thakurgaon around 9:30pm on Saturday. UNB from Thakurgaon reports, a youth was killed as a minibus rammed the power trolley carrying him on Dhaka-Panchagarh highway in Chowdhuryhat area of Sadar upazila around 6:00pm on Saturday. The deceased, Al Amin, 22, of the upazila, was helper of the power trolley driver. The agitated locals blocked the road in protest until police managed them to free the road around 8:00pm. Our staff correspondent from Sylhet reports, four passengers, including two siblings, were killed while twelve others injured when a bus collided head-on with their leguna (human-hauler) on Sylhet-Sunamganj highway in Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj district yesterday. The dead are Tahid miah, 48, Selim Ahmed, 30, his sister Kalpona, 25, of Ronoshi village, and Abdul Hannan, 50, of Mohammadpur village, of Dakshin Sunamganj upazila. The injured were admitted to Koitak health centre and Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. UNB from Naogaon adds, two siblings were killed and five other people injured when a Dhaka-bound bus, 'Druti Paribahan', hit their microbus at Jalchhatra Mor in Manda upazila of Naogaon around 11:00am on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Biswanath Murmu, 32, and his brother Rabidas Murmu, 28, of Dhamirhat upazila in the district. The injured, Maklu Hemrom, 30, Parvin Hemrom, 20, Jarman Murmu, 18, Rubel Hossain, 19, and Goljar Hossain, 18, hailed from the same upazila. Our Mymensingh correspondent adds, a schoolboy was killed instantly when a Dhaka-bound bus ran him over while crossing Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Raghamara in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh around 3:00pm yesterday. Minhaz, 15, son of Bubul of Satarpara village in the upazila, was a ninth grader.
