Any bid against ICT constitutes sedition
Says Qamrul
Any programme aiming to "repeal" the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) amounts to "sedition", State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam said yesterday.
He asserted that no-one would be allowed to hold any programmes against the constitutionally backed tribunal.
“Enforcing hartal to close down the tribunals, which were set up under constitutional provisions, is tantamount to sedition,†he told reporters on Bangabandhu Avenue where the AL and its different associated bodies demonstrated against Jamaat-e-Islami's hartal yesterday.
The ruling party men remained prepared at almost all wards and police stations in the capital to thwart any procession by Jamaat and Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Qamrul said the main opposition BNP had backed the killers of 1971 by openly supporting the Jamaat hartal, which, he claimed, was rejected by the people.
Dhaka city AL General Secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya alleged that Jamaat's hartal was a brainchild of the BNP. He also demanded banning Jamaat and Shibir.
