7 die in road crashes

Seven people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Narayanganj, Jamalpur, Chittagong and Pabna yesterday. Our Narayanganj correspondent reports, three people were killed as a covered van hit an auto-rickshaw at Siddhirganj in Sadar upazila early yesterday. The deceased were Jalal Bhuiyan, 30, Salma Akhter, 35, and the auto-rickshaw driver Md Musa, 23. Abdul Matin, officer-in-charge of Siddhirganj Police Station, quoting locals, said the Shimrail-bound covered van rammed the auto-rickshaw from the opposite direction around 1:00am. Our Jamalpur correspondent reports, two people were killed and three others injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was hit by an oncoming truck on Jamalpur-Bakshiganj road in Tanabridge area of Bakshiganj upazila yesterday morning. The deceased were Ichhi Miah, 40, of Panatiapara village; and Hajera Begum, 50, of village Battajor Beergaon in the upazila. Police said the truck hit the auto-rickshaw around 8:30am, killing the two instantly and injuring three others. Injured Aklima, 24, Mizanur Rahman, 40, of village Battajor; and Babu Miah, 30, of village Ghashirpara in the upazila, were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, a motorcyclist was killed a truck rammed his motorbike in Hathazari upazila yesterday afternoon. The deceased was Santos Barua, 30, son of Amulya Barua of Katirhat area in the upazila. Our Pabna correspondent reports, a boy died as a speeding truck hit him while he was crossing embankment road in Bera upazila of the district yesterday morning. The victim was Almas, 7, Kohinur Sheikh of village Brishalikha in the upazila.
