RU students forced to join BCL event
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of Rajshahi University (RU) unit compelled general students to participate in an anti-hartal procession organised by BCL on the campus yesterday.
Resident students of Shah Mukhdum Hall of RU said they were confined inside the hall since morning after BCL activists of the hall locked the hall gates to compel students to participate in the procession.
BCL men opened the gate around 10:30am and forcibly took the students to attend the procession.
The students also alleged that the hall unit BCL leader Khalilur Rahman Mamun announced through the mosque mike that every student in the hall has to join the procession.
Contacted, Mamun denied the allegation and said the students willingly joined the procession.
RU unit BCL President Ahmed Ali, who led the procession, said he was not aware of the matter.
The hall provost Prof Imtiaj Ahmed said they will investigate the matter and take steps against the BCL men involved in it.
